The trucking industry is still doing its part to protect the truck drivers keeping America’s economy moving forward. This week, UrgentCareTravel and EROAD announced they are providing telehealth services and walk-in clinics at Pilot and Flying J Travel Centers to provide healthcare to truckers on the road. USDOT’s CMV safety grant program revealed this week will aim to help improve the CDL program and help train veterans for jobs as commercial truck and bus drivers. Keeping that spirit, here are five good things that happened in trucking this week.

Southern Recipe donates to St. Christopher’s Trucker Relief Fund

As part of Southern Recipe’s 9th Annual Truck Driver Appreciation campaign, the brand will donate $7,500 to St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund to help support the nation’s truck drivers. In this year’s campaign from August 15 through September 15, Southern Recipe will draw awareness to the truck drivers who are fighting obstacles and moving mountains to ensure America continues to thrive during the current world pandemic. Members of the trucking community are encouraged to share their videos telling real, present day truck driver stories from the road to help spread the word.

During the campaign, Southern Recipe will unveil new videos from truck drivers suffering through and driving through the nation’s pandemic to ensure food is on our grocery shelves, COVID-19 tests are delivered, gear is readily available and more.

“Literally everything that comes into our plants and everything that leaves our plant are transported by way of America’s truck drivers,” said Mark Singleton, vice president of sales and marketing at Southern Recipe and Rudolph Foods. “We started celebrating Truck Driver Appreciation Week really simply – by handing out pork rinds to drivers as a way to say, ‘thank you’. Today, to have the opportunity to connect and say ‘thank you’ voice-to-voice and face-to-face over video is awesome. To be here today, in this pandemic, to help other people understand how important these people are to all of us, is more critical than ever.”

Team Penske, Wabash National thank truckers at Daytona

Team Penske, a professional NASCAR team, gave a big thanks to truck drivers on Aug. 17 at the Daytona International Speedway with its #2 car sponsored by Wabash National driven by Brad Keselowski. The phrase “Thank you truckers” is featured across the entire vehicle as a reminder that truck drivers are not forgotten during these unprecedented times.

Tennessee Trucking Association serve breakfast at local food bank

The Young Professionals Council (YPC), a group within the Tennessee Trucking Association, recently served breakfast at the Nashville Rescue Mission Men’s Campus.

The Nashville Rescue Mission is a Christ-centered community committed to helping the hungry, homeless, and hurting by providing programs and services that focus on a person’s entire life. Established in 1954, the Mission first opened its doors to provide food, clothing, and shelter to homeless men in Nashville.

The YPC is comprised of young trucking professionals who have passion and drive for the future of trucking in Tennessee. The council’s mission is: “To empower and build camaraderie through the professional development of its young industry leaders through education, mentorship and leadership opportunities while continuing to grow and strengthen the Tennessee Trucking Association.

XPO Logistics mask giveaway for breast cancer

Back in July, XPO Logistics created branded products in partnership with the Susan G. Komen Foundation to support the fight against breast cancer where all of the proceeds go to the foundation.
